The winemaking village of Feuersbrunn am Wagram lies where the elevation called Mannhartsberg meets the Wagram River. The chain of hills of Austria’s Waldviertel (“Forest Quarter”) protects the area from chill northern winds. The vineyards are surrounded by a landscape that resembles a shell that is open to the south. This macroclimate is particularly favourable for winegrowing, producing grapes for fruity wines of great elegance and remarkable power. The vineyards of Feuersbrunn have an extremely dry climate that usually extends into the long, warm autumn.
The winegrowers Erhard & Angelika Mörwald have a classic family operation with some 12 hectares of vineyards and 22 hectares of other land in agricultural use. Most of the vineyards have loess soils, which retain moisture. Even in periods of extended drought, these soils offer the deeply rooted vines an optimal water supply.
The current programme includes the varietals Grüner Veltliner, Frühroter Veltliner, Neuburger, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Roter Traminer, Gelber Muskateller, Merlot, Blauer Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a range of outstanding brandies.
